alternative weapons that will kill a coyote/racoon/opossum...?

Well since you asked I have game cameras with timers and pests are usually reliable and on time when they visit. I have 2 boys trained in marksmanship. I'm not discouraging electric fences just saying they have not worked that well for me and I have many acres and let my chickens free range. I loose most to hawks and owls. The raccoons took up residence right above the coop of my friends place and were not actively foraging natural food so he thought that was the best course of action. That many raccoons in one place is just asking for a rabies outbreak. When you have a full time business, large farm, kids to raise, and only so much time during the day our time is prioritized and unfortunately building a maximum security coop just hasn't happened yet, maybe some day. My neighbors would not like me kicking the can down the road so to speak but thank me for dealing effectively with a problem animal. I have a ton of wildlife here and they are fine until they become an issue. Oh and I have 5 coops/building that are secure but again they freerange.

oh my, I only read some of this thread....dog food and antifreeze, really?
My neighbors dog killed one of my chickens, well maimed it beyond, I finished her off myself to be humane. I made it perfectly clear that if his dog came back, I would either put it in one of my x large dog cages and take it to the pound, or if it was chasing my chickens down again, put an arrow thru its head. That dog has not been back. My neighbor doesnt have the $200 they would charge him and he doesn't want his dog dead.
My husband and I used to have a lot of guns and got rid of them all when I found out I was pregnant. Its not worth the risk. If you have a real bow, your youngins cant possibly use it and when they get old enough, teach them.

I have bowhunted for over 25 years it works on cats also and is quiet. I sat on a friends rooftop one day many years ago in my twenties and helped her eliminate a feral cat explosion that an elderly female neighbor had created. The bow was used as a silent way of putting them down. The old woman had several hundred cats.

Yeah, what's this obsession some have with feeding feral cats thereby exacerbating an already serious problem?

Has anybody suggested a slingshot? They can be pretty lethal.

Not to mention that when the animal crawls off to die, whatever finds it and eats it probably dies too, ad infinitum if dose is high enough.

I'm curious about the electrified wire for hawks, could you diagram for me?
I think electric is one of the best deterrents.
