I was wondering if it is bad to tidy up the coop daily? Also, I usually do this around 10:30/11 and am there about an hour...some of the girls lay eggs in the nesting boxes while I'm cleaning, yet I'm told that I'm doing a bad thing and disturbing them? I really don't think so bc I've had them since they were a day old and we are used to each other by now...I just wondered if anyone out there has any info on this subject? The girls will be 2 years old soon and there are 15 of them, which is how many I started with. Any input would be helpful thank you!

Welcome to BYC. I don't see anything that you're doing wrong. They are your chickens and your coop, do as you see fit.

Minimizing the amount of poop and other potential germ breeding substances can only help keep your chickens from getting illnesses. Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions. Welcome! I'm new to chicken keeping, but I tidy the coop and remove the poop daily. The coop is quite close to my house and I don't want to smell it. I rake out my run about once a week as well (not doing any free ranging yet, as my pullets are still young and we several red tailed hawks in the neighborhood).

Glad you joined us! I agree with the above. A clean coop is a good thing and if the ladies don't mind you hanging around while they are laying, what's the problem? Enjoy the site!

I am constantly cleaning in my coop all day long. And they are laying, dust bathing, eating, ect....Chickens get used to all kinds of activities and you won't be disturbing them, especially since you raised them.
