Am I a chicken hoarder? :)

That's pretty much how it's been for me, too, right down to the odd number thing. I remember selling a pullet and realizing it left me with 11 of that age and I wanted to round-out the number to 12. It seemed logical, right? BUT, I couldn't buy just one and keep it in quarantine, so I bought one with friends. Of course, that still left me with the odd 11 due to quarantine time. Seems to me I just needed an excuse to buy more pullets!

I'm grateful to be a country girl with acreage too. We have plenty of room and hubby seems to really enjoy the chickens too. Better yet, he's happy to build whatever I want/need. Today, he's putting big windows with shutters in the barn coop doors. He's also building and selling chicken tractors!

As for spicy flocks... I only have ten breeds. I totally need to flavor my flock just a little more!

I do the chickens and eggs of every color thing too. I love my chickens (I really do) but they're more than pets, and egg and fertilizer producers, they're also ART! I love to sculpt the look of our flock and to put together interesting cartons of eggs of every color!

It's called CHICKEN MATH.. It just happens and no one knows why/when or how. It just happens.. I wanted 3-4 hens, dh decided to build my coop for 6 'cause he knows me'.. The end results were a coop large enough for 17 hens... I went to purchase a few and ended up w/ a dozen, added a few extras as some died, we have now moved to the farm and dh is in the process of building one large enough for 40 girls, a few roos and a couple of cages for broody hens/chicks etc... OH my....

ok, I don't have chickens, I don't have a coop (well I will in about 3 weeks) BUT... I want more breeds than I can have chickens (though, I've been told, chickens are hard to count ((thank heavens!)) so what's one or two more than I am allowed right?)
I rent the house we live in and the 2 acres of land it comes with.
I do have permission from my landlord to have chickens!
I am allowed by the regional district to have 15 chickens (though I'm not clear if it's 15 chickens, 15 turkeys, 15 ducks... not sure I want to clarify it either lol)
I am building a coop that holds 30 chickens (though hubby wonders if that's big enough <insert evil grin here>)
the more I read posts and see pics the more I want!!!

Oh yeah and I started looking into chicken keeping because I wanted 4 laying hens... HAHAHAHAHA

My name is Cathy and I am a chicken addict

Oh yeah, almost forgot, I live vicariously through many of you

My husband keeps giving me side-looks and saying, "You are NOT bringing chickens into the house!" I look innocent as I assure him I never would.

The other day our oldest son said, "Don't believe her dad." I reminded them both that I am a neat freak, as evidenced by our VERY tidy house. My son says, "Like that's going to stop you." I thought about it a moment and said, "You may be right. After all, I let you stay in the house!"

Seriously, I can't imagine. I do have goofy pet names for them and I spend A LOT of time outside with them but I can't imagine bringing them in. Well, I can IMAGINE it, but no.
