I agree with you on this! Although we do have names for a few special chickens (not goofy names, really names
and the rest are called chickens.
We do have a couple of saramas that come in the house under supervision and no problem with my family because they are "chicken aficionados" too. But I suspect my older brother is borderline hoarding
Our friends love us because they get free farm fresh eggs from us. You should see their faces when I bring them eggs.
We really don't know how many we have, but it's difficult to count when they free range on a 2.5 acre fenced lot. They get to do their natural chicken things. You can hardly see them from the house because they are all scattered over the land.
And we did lose 47 chicks a couple of days ago.
Therefore, we are not hoarders! We are aficionados!
And De Nile IS just a river in Egypt.
We just love them chickens! That's all.
"We just love them chickens! That's all..." Ditto that!!!!
I can't imagine losing 47 chicks. Heartbreaking.
We let ours out on about 2.5 acres of fenced pasture as well but I'm always counting them for fear of a loss. I count by breed, recount, go hunting around for the missing ones, find them, lose count, then commence counting again.
Ours are all named but, then, we don't have a massive number of chickens. I don't think I'll ever go beyond the point where I have too many name. It may not be wise to be as attached as I am but I can't help it. They are productive, fun, and I consider them "garden art" but they're also very much pets.
