Am I a hypocrite that I treat my chickens as loving pets but I eat chicken from Popeye's or KFC?

Yes, thats perfectly fine.

Some people as SilverBirds pointed out give them a wonderful life full of snuggles before butchering point. Thats amazing because if your giving them a good life and kill them in a way thats painless thats the best thing you can do!

Treat your animals wonderful, spoil them and love them. You are allowed to eat whatever you like and if someone makes you feel otherwise that you have to pick one then their wrong. Don’t treat your chickens differently, love them the same, eat what you want.
Yeah, it's only your "food" when it's actually on your plate. Some people should mind their own business, like bridget said in her OP. Her instincts were right on in that point.

I love my pet chickens because they are large and fluffy birds that like to cuddle with me. However, I was at a pet store and this old guy (who couldn't mind his own business) said to me to stop playing with your "food" and that chickens were only good for meat. Am I a hypocrite that I treat my chickens as kind and loving pets, but I eat chicken from Popeye's or KFC?
I think its only hypocritical for you if you’re judgmental of people who don’t keep their chickens as pets. If your attitude was “my chickens are my pets and I baby them, shame on you for not pampering your chickens! Now pass me the KFC bucket,” that might be hypocritical.

There’s nothing hypocritical about pampering some chickens and killing and eating others, or even killing and eating one you love. Some people won’t get it, but that doesn’t make you a hypocrite. A chicken can be your pet and also be your food.

I think it's hypocrisy if you say "I would NEVER!" and then you sneak around in private and do that exact same thing. Like if you say, "Chickens are ONLY for pets and nothing else, and I would NEVER eat any chicken, EVER!" and then sneak around and actually eat chicken while pretending you don't. That would be hypocritical. But if you can honestly love chickens as pets and also as dinner, I see nothing hypocritical about that.

A pet is a pet and live stock is a source of food.

The difference between the two is your level of care. And what it represents to you.

As far as comments like the one that was said to you. It doesn't really matter, cause you know the difference and what's important to you.

This is a classic example of over-thinking. Just yesterday I gave my chickens some leftover salad. Then I was informed it had chicken in it..... I reminded myself to NOT overthink this. They enjoyed the scraps, end of story. Dude who passed judgment on you is just bored and probably just needs some chickens to care for.
