Am I a hypocrite that I treat my chickens as loving pets but I eat chicken from Popeye's or KFC?

This is a classic example of over-thinking. Just yesterday I gave my chickens some leftover salad. Then I was informed it had chicken in it..... I reminded myself to NOT overthink this. They enjoyed the scraps, end of story. Dude who passed judgment on you is just bored and probably just needs some chickens to care for.
When i think of chicken meat and pet chicken i think of completely different things.
Sure, they are the same. But completely different chicken! Thats how i try and look at it anyway.

Meh ignore that old guy. Probably just some bozo with no life trying to ruin your day. I have been trying to eat less chicken because it does kind of feel weird they are my favorite animal and my chickens are pets, but chicken meat is just so tasty!

I wouldn't feel bad at all, we're all hypocrites when it comes to food. I just like the taste of chicken and don't want to stop eating it. I just treat my own chickens differently. Same logic and why people seem to elevate dogs, guinea pigs and cats above other livestock animals like cows and pigs. If you happened to be born in other culture, it would have been normal to eat dogs, guinea pigs etc. I think it's fine as long as we're not enforcing our double standards on other people.

The thought of killing my chickens makes me sad, because they are pets to me and I love them. Now, I don’t find anything wrong with keeping chickens for meat, but I would just much rather not. And the reason for this isn’t because I value chickens too highly, but it’s because it would definitely take a toll on me emotionally and mentally, and I would love for my chickens to live happily as long as they can. This is just my view though, and I don’t think opinions can be right or wrong per se. :)

I love my pet chickens because they are large and fluffy birds that like to cuddle with me. However, I was at a pet store and this old guy (who couldn't mind his own business) said to me to stop playing with your "food" and that chickens were only good for meat. Am I a hypocrite that I treat my chickens as kind and loving pets, but I eat chicken from Popeye's or KFC?
Not. At. All!
I eat chicken often, but I still love my birds.
Some people just need to mind their own business about thing's like that. If we want to "Play with our food" that's our choice.

Me too. My chickens are my life I dont think I could kill them.

Is it OK to keep dogs as livestock? Asking for a friend.

That's what my ancestors used to do. Sort of. They were expected to forage for scrap and free range, but they were emergency food in harsh times. Nowadays, they probably won't make such good hardship food...

This thread cracked me up because I have a young lady at work upset with me for planning to eat my chickens eventually, but she's eating chicken nuggets. I guess if you don't know the chicken personally, it's ok?

Sure.
but does it hurt anybody?
I am the same way. I love my girls, but have no problem digging in when chicken is served.
I am pretty sure my ladies will die of old age,
