Hello all!! "Middy" is our 4 week old Black Australorp "pullet", but I've been suspicious that this may not be the case for a week or so. I understand sexing after 6 weeks of age is most definitive, just kinda curious

lol!

We picked up the black australorp in question along with an Easter Egger and Buff Orphington about 4 weeks ago as sexed pullets. Was looking forward to "her" eggs!!

"Her" comb is just soooo much larger than the other girls and her body shape is do different from them as well. These are our first chickies so wasn't sure if its just her different breed type.

I will accept that I must be patient if that's the answer, just really wanted some input from y'all!!

Many Thanks!!!

that is 100% a rooster...Sorry to say...Can you keep roosters where you live?

Aw man, literally... Yes we live in the country so roosters are not an issue code wise, just wasn't planning on having any roos... Thanks for the confirmation!

Thanks guys for confirming my suspicions!!!

I'm not against having a roo, just initially wasn't planning on it. He's a nice little guy so I guess we'll just see how it goes. I have a two year old son and new baby on the way so the chickies are also kinda pets. If he stays sweet and doesn't cause trouble he'll probably be staying around. I wanted at least 3 laying hens so might find a confirmed young hen around here to add to the flock.

Do you guys think having a rooster in the flock is worth it?

Guess he's now "Stubby" (husband enjoys the drinking culture

Thanks again!!

He's a beautiful little cockerel with lovely eyes.

I didn't want a rooster, either. I ended up with three and rehomed two. And everybody knows who I kept.
