Am I annoyed or sympathetic?

Quote:
My money, and yours and all taxpayers are paying for food stamps. We already exclude purchasing alcohol, cigarettes, etc., I don't see why we cannot limit to foods that actually nourish. WIC does not cover all foods: only specific ones; why should food stamps be different? If they want specifics, tehn they need to pay for them, themselves, not expect me to foot the bill.

Personally I find the request by this person rather arrogant in naming specific prefereces. It would be one thing to say "instant coffee" or "cereal," but it is quite another to name specific brands and products, implying that others are unacceptable. Quite frankly, it sounds like a scam to me.

If you are truly needy; you should be happy to take any food! Plus, to me sodas is a bonus item; unlike water which we can't live without! Cat litter isn't food. I would be out in the yard with my little shovel if I couldn't afford my cat litter. My husband is disabled, and I know what it's like to be against a wall! It took him over two years to get his disability started. In the meantime, we sold everything that wasn't nailed down to pay our bills. Luckily, we had valuables to sell! Plus, I took a second job and for over two years I worked over 70 hours a wk. I consider us truly blessed because we grew stronger spiritually. Because, let me tell you the bills; they keep coming whether you can work or not. As for food stamps, my income from my two jobs was too much for us to get food stamps! So, we made it in the hands of God and on our own! I feel for anyone that's suffering; being from devastated Alabama; there are hurting people. You only have to walk or drive in my hometown to find them. Until, you see someone picking up the pieces of their lives in a sand bucket you can't imagine hardship. I just feel that if you are in need be grateful for every grain of rice, generic brand goods, etc. You don't have to have Dr. Pepper, coffee, and clumping cat litter to make it!

Well prehaps to them those are every day items. My family is tight, I am seeing it effect everyone. I am blessed and have a lot more then most but we still are tight. I find myself buying simple, like milk, flour , yeast. I can always make my own bread. I have had to limit food because its expensive right now. I too anm disable but I do not get checks like most people because I did not want to stain on tax payees. Perhaps I am just stubborn. But thats me. I went into debt from medical bills. Sucks but I am just trying hard to make ends meet. Soda is cheap, sadly . I think they should up junk food and lower healthy choices. I also know in my area people that get welfare , get more money in food stamps then i can afford to buy right now. Thats pretty poopy. They also get free medical and dental. But then again I live in california and I cant even go out without signs and things in Spanish.
I got a nice hefty bill from my sons accident. I guess I should be thankful to pay 42k total instead of 35k just for being airlifted to the hospital.

Not sayin people don't need charity, but they should be happy with whatever extra someone has to offer. Beans, flour, eggs, milk, rice. Etc.

Dont know how you feel but it annoys me to a level that I can't politely say on a forum

So many times while working at the local corner store I had customers come in and drop $100 in FS on junk and then buy the lottery tickets and cig. and beer with the cash they just withdrew from the ATM off the state benefits card. WHY OH WHY would people waste the FS on the obscene prices at a corner store regardless of wether its "real money" or not?

Fast forward to Friday (payday). Time to go grocery shopping. At the time when I was working at the store I was about 9 years younger....had 2 kids under 3 and a husband that works construction. 2 Hard working parents just barely making ends meet with a new family. After paying bills etc I have like 1/4 of the money I should have to feed the family for the week. Ever notice that when you go grocery shopping sometimes you end up walking the aisles along the same people you entered the store with? Well one specific time I was shopping at the same pace as a woman with 4 kids running amuck in the store and when we got to the dairy aisle she picks up about 3 different kinds of that science project yourt squeezy stuff, presliced high end cheeses, and all kinds of other stuff that I cant remember now. Her cart had all kinds of cookies, sodas, single serving snacks, chips and pastries. The thing that stood out in memory was the cheese....She could afford to buy Kraft "real" cheese thanks to the food stamp card she was toting. I on the other hand, trying to feed a husband and 2 small kids had to settle for the "processed cheese food product" when its mine and my husbands tax dollars helping her buy junk yogurt and paying the extra 3 dollars a package to buy the kind of cheddar that comes presliced.

Point is I understand that sometimes people need some help and thats all well and good....I would never fault someone for that but jeez try and make the most of it...make your FS last as long as you can. You have someone BUYING YOUR FOOD FOR YOU....for goodness sake use this time to feed your family healthy and stop wasting it on 6 dollar cheese when the $3 cheese is the same ...you just need to slice it.

As for the comments about crack heads etc...I had heard something recently about my state trying to require drug testing for state assistance programs....WOW wouldn't THAT solve alot of the system abuse! I would love to see that go through lol

Rant off
