Thats so cool that you are such a savy shopper! Kudos to you! I dont have such luck finding nicer stuff like what you describe in our local thrift stores or second hand shops- which, with 5 kids and one on the way, I frequent as often as possible. I dont judge anyone using FS by what they wear or drive- many of those things are misleading. I dont think you should have nothing nice, or have no car just because your accepting aide.

My answer to your last question regarding soda and candy is a resounding NO! Their child should NOT be getting soda or candy bought with FS. By the very name ' FOOD STAMP', buying anything else is not right. Only in America do people think they have some God-given right to have access to soda and candy, but for some reason think it should be free to them. But it ISNT free- it costs me, you, and every other tax payer. Since WHEN is candy, chips and soda food? It has NO nutritional value at all, and s detrimental to a childs health. If someone wants to feed that crap to themselves or their kids- fine (I'm certainly guilty of buying junk on occasion for my family, but with our own, very hard earned money) but to expect someone else to buy that junk for you or your kids is unacceptable.

If you are financially unable to feed yourself or your children ANYTHING AT ALL, then WHY is it wrong for the system to say to you - "Hey! I'll help ya out, the only thing I ask is you be responsible and buy decent real food with the money other people are giving you" Food Stamps ARENT a right, they are a privilege. If you or you kids want extras or junk or candy, then buy it yourself, with your own money. There is nothing wrong with that. If you are poor and cant afford the basics, what in the world are you doing buying junk??? Yes, I have a kinda tough attitude about this- but I look back to the days of rationing and the depression era and get a reality check. Those people were happy just to EAT, let alone have the nerve to be MAD cause they couldnt get a free candy bar.

So, I guess youre right, if your poor, your kid DOESNT get candy or soda in my way of thinking. They dont get it because you cant afford it. Just like they dont get a new bike or cable TV or a new X-box. They will survive just fine (probably better since candy and soda rot their teeth and its not healthy at all) and they will maybe be more motivated to do better in life so they can someday afford those things themselves in the future by working hard and achieving higher goals.

I love you too...

I must be cold because I didn't even feel one bit sorry for that person. I think the Diet Soda and Coffee done me in. I could handle the frosted flakes for the kids.

The clumping cat litter didn't set to well with me either, if I needed help, I wouldn't care what brand it was. People can not be so picky when they really need help. I don't honestly think a food bank is going to give anyone spoiled food.

Angel Food accepts food stamps. AND you can buy the fresh fruit & vegetable deal, as well as meat and even gluten free/allergan meals.
Don't forget, the craigslist people also wanted gas for their vehicle!

The way I look at it, is they are both on disablity so they are bringing in somewhere around $1200 a month, plus the kids get checks because their parents are disabled then they get food stamps. THEY are making more money than I am and I am managing to keep things going with three kids and I do not receive any food stamps.

When I was no longer panhandling but had found a place to stay in exchange for chores (where I live now) and I was selling crafts, I met a lot of people who were panhandling. They all seemed to have retirement, disability, etc. money coming in and I was resentful that they were panhandling TOO. But I thought about it, and realized, not everyone can go out and be a street musician, or any of a number of types of street performer, or occupy themselves with books and hobbies etc. George Orwell observed that the working-class people of his time weren't into books, or other middle-class forms of passing time, and so when their working lives were over, it was hard for them to deal with all the time just sitting around. I realized these guys were panhandling as a way of getting out of their subsidized housing, away from the TV set, and out among people. And asking for money was a way to interact with them. Me, I'd rather play music than anything, and would gladly do that for the public for free. I'm working on getting that going this year. But the unskilled don't have a lot of choices.

I should mention that a lot of homeless people don't panhandle, and have worked out how to get by on shockingly small amounts of money. Also, if they live in town, they can make the $5-$10 a day they need easily, just finding money in the street, collecting a few cans, finding stuff at a garage sale and reselling it, etc.

Annoyed. Too many people binge with food stamps. Go out as soon as they're credited and blow it all in one trip... then have nothing for the rest of the month. There was an article about just that not too long ago. About the 24hr shops having lines with bulging buggies waiting until 12:00 to check out... some folks with two bulging buggies even. And if that list is any hint as to how they spend their FS dollars then it's really not any wonder that they're out within two weeks of the deposit.

Also consider that depending on the last number of your ... client number I guess it'd be called?... you might get your credit on the first, but it could be as late as the 7th. No way for you to know, but whether it's only six days or thirteen these people blew through an entire month's food very quickly... knowing that there wouldn't be funds for more until that date rolled around again.

Also consider that plenty of people sell their FS... they'll offer to buy you $2 worth of groceries for $1 in cash... or even worse I've heard. Get cash for whatever they need... whether that's toilet paper or drugs no way to know... but then no food in the house.

On top of all of those reasons you add in that you happen to know your local charities are well stocked... yeah, overall this seems like a massive scam to me.

Or at the very least two VERY irresponsible people who are now trying to make others pay (on top of your taxes paying for their FS in the first place mind you) for their bad choices.
