Am I close?

I would have tried to extend the run under the coop so they can play outside and also get some shade if needed. Also a nice place to hang toys, food and water.

What are the dimensions and what are you planning to house? Are you counting on the poultry netting to keep predators out or planning to employ other security measures? What are the plans for the finishing of the coop portion with regards to ventilation and light?

x2 especially in regards to how big is the coop and run, how many birds, and what breeds are going to live in there? Is this a permanent setup, or will you be moving it around? Will there be free ranging access to a larger area?

Okay, I am building a big pen in the pasture, this is gonna be for like 3 birds maybe 4. They will house at night in the coop, because we are in the country, hawks are my main daytime predator. Good idea in enclosing under coop, I wanted to make a drop/hinged floor that would act as a ramp to the pen. How do you make the floor, wood or wire? The sides for ventilation? How close to the roof of my coop do I put my perches and which way? I told you guys coming in, I got questions, chickens are a whole new ballgame vs. cows, and an added bonus---they can fly. rg's

We're still building ours and we used osb for the flooring. We plan on either painting it or putting cheap vinyl tiles on it to make it easier to clean. I tried to find treated osb but didn't have any luck here in Houston. On top of that, we're going to put litter in there for ease of cleaning. Ours is set-up to open fully on one side so I can use a broom to replace all the litter when necessary though.

How tall is the coop going to be from the floor to the roof. A medium sized hen will be about 1 1/2 to two feet tall. My Barred Rocks are at least 2 1/2 feet tall. You will need ventilation move ammonia in the air out of the coop. You will need the roosts to be higher than the nest boxes, and low enough to keep the hens out of the drafts created by the vents. You will also need at least 1 foot of roost per bird. That's why we have questions about what kind of chickens do you plan on having, how big exactly is that coop, and how many are you going to get.

I will bring measurments, Barred Rock, Production Red, White Rock---or just 3 production reds. I was just using lumber I had, I think I built the starting of a rabbit hutch. smh. rg's

Heck we're neighbors, I live on the mainland in Santa Fe--15 miles from the gulf. :) Weather is nice, better than rain. rg's

Those are all large breed hens and will need at least 4 sq ft each of floor space. They will need at least a foot and a half each of roost space, maybe more so they can spread out on hot nights. And they will need about 12 sq. ft of run space per bird.
