I got my two ducks Lucy and ricky from a friend that didn't want them about 3 months ago. Everything was fine until Ricky was about 6-7 months. He keeps chasing and attacking me. It's not much of an issue until he started running in front of me, and tripping me. I read it could be because there aren't enough female for him to mate with but I have a feeling it's just him maturing and being hormonal. Does anyone have some tips and/or advice on how to combat this behavior? He use to be so sweet :(

If I where in that situation, I would dominate the drake. The easiest way to do so is to catch him, and hold him to the ground. Straddle his body with his neck leading in front of you, and hold his neck to the ground too. Your not trying to hurt him or smoosh him, but you do want to hold him against his will. Hold him until he is calm, and when he is you can release him. You might need to do it once, or 5+ times, but he should get the picture.

You'd be mounting him in a dominating way just like he would to another drake.

That's the same thing. Male female ratios are important, and he and his attitude would likely benefit from more females. What breed is the drake?
Tagging @Miss Lydia to help with some advice, especially since I'm just repeating what she taught me.

Everything you said is right on @Trimurtisan. Ricky needs to know he isn’t the dominant drake in this pic you are @Jamesthesilkie dont be afraid to show him your head drake not him. He’ll get the picture but it will take consistency on your part. I’d also not let him get close to you, you need your space in other words so take a broom with you to keep him broom length away from you. Don’t hit him just just it as a buffer. Hormonal drakes can be taught to respect us but it takes tough love. Look around at ponds and lakes you’ll see a lot of dumped ducks and geese an the majority are males because of this problem your having. It takes work but is so def worth it to be able to enjoy both sexes. I have an 8 yr old Muscovy drake that is my best bud but he still has to be reminded every once in a while I am not part of his little harem. Let us know how it goes.

Oh my goodness they are so cute. Sorry he is being a bugger! My bantam Rooster attacks me all the time and he has plenty of mates.

Pick that roo up and carry him around for a while it will humiliate him. Do it as often as you have too.

I would if I could catch the little bugger! I have been able to catch him a couple of times..as soon as I let him go he's right back at it. He has calmed down now that we have a second Rooster. I raised him from a chick, I don't know why he is such a...;)
