I have a 6 wk old chick who I had with a baby turkey my sister in law was given last week. I wanted the baby turkey to have company and I knew my bird (being that I raised it from the moment I found it) was good company and very calm, compared to the 6- 4 or 5 week old Barred Rocks.
I put my bird (Tweet) in with the Barred Rocks and my bird was totally attacking them. Could it be because the baby turkey was chirping so loud because I took Tweet out of the cage for the short moment? Or maybe because the wind was blowing pretty hard Tweet got too excited or scared? I tried putting all of them together a couple days ago and that didnt go well. The Barred Rocks ran straight to the baby turkey and started pecking like crazy. So I took the baby out.
I let Tweet go for about 5 mins to see if he/she would calm down but, that wasn't happening so I put Tweet back with the baby turkey and Tweet is fine now. However, last night I caught them pecking at eachother. Not sure if it was because the were fighting over a bug or not.
What am I doing wrong? I wanted a chick to keep Tweets company and ended up with 6 other ones. Now we get a baby turkey and it wont stop crying unless Tweet is in the cage with it. But, I know Tweet needs room to roam so I wanted to give Tweet some room to roam.
What can I do and not do ever again so I dont end up with a mean bird?
