Am I killing my chicks?

I think putting newly hatched chicks in with three week olds is a problem.
The three week olds will be more active and rambunctious. sometime trampling and suffocating new chicks, that need quiet time to recover from the exhausting work of hatching.
I never mix chicks of over a week in age.
I do it all the time, with no problems except minor picking.

Well, everybody's experiences can differ.
I have lost chicks that were week from hatching to begin with. Then bigger chicks kept running over the tops of them knocking them over, and laying on top of them when they slept.found them squished, dead and flattened on the morning.
RE: Oyster Shell.
Feeding oyster shell on the side is one of the cheaper things you can spend on your birds. It lasts a long time and they will only eat it when necessary. It will potentially help your hens avoid problems from arising later.
I have free choice oyster shell and grit 24/7, all times of year.
I free range to, but they still peck at it. Only have to top up the dispenser once every 6 months or so.

after u fed them water/food, how did they appear? maybe they choked, as they are weak and probably can't swallow
This is what im wondering about. Its possible.
This last one, I suspected immediately that there would be a problem, cause when I gave it to the chick, it didn't move its tongue up and down fast, like the others have. I suspected it was gonna choke, but it was too late.

Is my way of forcing a bit of water, the wrong way?
All I know to reall do is to make sure a sick chicken is hydrated.
