I'm the only wife I know who asked for (and received) a dremel for a birthday gift.

For my birthday, my MIL bought me a leaf-blower. Not sure how I managed without it before. I use it for everything! Sure beats sweeping the carport and deck! I also got a jigsaw for my birthday! I've requested more power tools in the future.

To answer your question... are you nuts? Probably... but so are the rest of us around here. Are you planning on building this coop/shed or buying it? Do you really need hubby's permission?

They clean out the movie theatre floors after a show with a leaf blower...

I'm planning to buy it. No, I don't have to ask his permission. He was just mentioning that my plan to use it as a studio if I ended up not staying in the chicken arena might not work out as I was thinking.

I think it sounds like an awesome idea! It's the same premise I used except I got a darling playhouse instead of a shed. "If the chickens don't work out, the grandbabies will have a really cute playhouse." BTW - I got a cordless drill out of the deal; DH didn't want me using his heavy corded one to put the playhouse together.

"If you build it they will come" around ... eventually.

Tammy, where'd you get your kit? That was my first idea but I couldn't find any playhouses I really liked that were big enough. Also, I found they were more expensive than the sheds.

Yours is adorable - I love it!

i keept my chicks in my bathroom for over 3 month. i didnt smell at all. you just have to keep it clean. the tip with the vinyl is realy helpfull. i used that in my chicken coop too and it is so easy to sweep out.
go for it! you will see how much you are going to love your birds.
(my husband thinks im nuts too ;-) )

Thank you!! It's a Savannah playhouse by Big Backyard, and we ordered it from Toys r Us. Actually spent as much on shipping as the house itself, but they are scarce instock anywhere. I understand a few people on BYC have been fortunate enough to find it on sale.

It's only 4x6, but it fits our yard just right and I still have room for the storage shed we really need.

Happy 4th Everyone!!

Okay, that's oodles cheaper than the garden shed! And every bit as cute, just smaller. Can you (an adult) actually walk inside? Do you have photos of the inside and also the pop door showing the modifications you made?

Is there a reason you can't just pick it up from ToyRUs and save the shipping costs?

What did you use as a 'foundation'? and also, what did you put down for flooring?

Might answer a few questions. I have to duck to get in the door, but I can stand up straight once I get inside.

Oh my goodness! If I could have found one in stock I would have been making the trip! That turned out to be easier said than done in my neck of the woods, but more power to you if you can find one! Be ware the box is good sized and HEAVY! Wouldn't fit in my SUV, but a pickup truck would do it..

DH poured a concrete pad, then set 4x4's into it. The litte house sits exactly on the 4x4's, giving it a concrete floor. I'm using the deep litter method. The pop hole is about 3 inches above the bottom of the house, and I put a 1x4 across the front door so the litter doesn't fall out.

We put two windows on the south end; they open into the run. DH helped me put 4 house vents in the north walls for air flow. I put 1/2" hardware cloth over each window, and then put 1/2" plywood on each wall to seal everything and make it stronger. I also left off the last few pieces of roof trim so there is better ventilation on each end.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any more questions.
