I just inherited my uncles chickens and turkeys.... And they are in terrible shape!

So I went and looked at them today and got an idea of what I am dealing with.... Leg mites (there legs are Hindus), bubble foot, parasites, etc.... I am not new to all this but with this many birds I am not feeling so confident.

So from how I have dealt with this issues in the past this is what I need...
Soap
Vinegar
Salt Water
For bubble foot and mites.

DE for spreading on the coop ground.

Kombucha for them to drink.

So my plan to tackle this is-

1- soak all 40 chickens legs

2- move all birds into a new pen with clean bedding and separate all the sickes birds from the rest.

3- muck out current coop, place down DE and new bedding after spraying with everything with soapy water, and repeat several times.

4- start records of all the birds so I can keep track of all there progress

5- put down all that don't purk up and make improvement in 2-weeks.

Mites I have only had to deal with once when I had 8-chickens and that was a long time ago.

Anything else I should keep on hand or be prepared for?

Thankfully I have 3 other coops I can split them up between.

I will post pics in a little bit when my phone is charged.

It sounds like you have a lot of your plate, but good for you for trying to sort them out (I know I wouldn't). These are great link for first aid for chickens -

Thank you for the link.

Yeah, to much it seems but animals are my passion and I can't bear to leave them in this without giving them a chance to live.

I was going to have dad put down the whole Flock but where I live it is extremely hard to just go buy more birds so I am going to try.

After washing the legs put vegetable oil on them it will kill the mites.... You have to be very gentle when washing the legs cause it does hurt them from those darn mites!
Bless your heart for taking this on!
Awe, thanks.

Okay... I will have a store trip to make (we eat totally organic so I don't have that around).

Yeah, I bet it hurts... They look so miserable!

Tepezcohuite, you will probably have to order it off Amazon or eBay it's an ointment. If you have any with extremely nasty feet or legs I cannot recommend this enough. It's made from mimosa tree and is petroleum based like Vaseline so it kills living mites as well as soothing and healing damage.

Okay, I will have to look into that... Thanks.

And this special girl will live her days out on the homestead... She is totally blind but I can't stand to put her down with how sweet she is... She is a animal I will keep! Only birds I really name are my really special ones and this girl has earned a name... Amilia mayTiff.

DE won't really help much, and it's not good for the chickens (or you) to breath in. The bumblefoot on several of them looks pretty severe. You're going to need to remove the bumbles and spray the wounds with Vetericyn several times a day. Epsom salt soaks help to loosen up the bumble for easier removal. A broad spectrum antibiotic will help get the infection under control. A dewormer is probably also needed, it will help with the mites too.
