Am I supposed to wash my eggs or not?

I've read that you are not supposed to wash eggs because they have a protective coating on it to keep it fresh. I've also read that you are supposed to wash them because they absorb poop when they are layed. So what am I supposed to do?

You wash them if you're going to eat them, if they're for hatching then don't wash them, just choose the cleanest eggs for the incubator. You can wash the eggs you're going to eat

I wash mine and keep them in the fridge

I normally don't wash mine because I think they keep fresh better with the natural coating intact. Only if they have really big poop blobs on them I wash that part of the shell.

I agree with @Hybridchucks I wash mine whenever I'm going to eat them. But your not supposed to when your hatching them. Just run the egg under semi-warm water and and gently rub it with your finger to get any poop off. Then just dab it dry with a paper towel.

Never wash my eggs unless they are really dirty. I dry wipe if there is a small mud streak etc.
