Am I the only one who gets REALLY annoyed with breed names...???

Exactly! How are we supposed to learn if "teaching" resources (like the publication from the Cooperative Extension) give us incorrect information? Or breeders selling chicks as one breed when they are clearly not that breed...it's just not right. If it happened with any other product people would probably be pretty annoyed...like if you bought a new TV and the sales person told you it was an HD but it wasn't.

I don't know. I guess I'm just weird that way. I expect educators to teach correct information, especially when it's information that actually has a right and wrong vs being an opinion. And I expect people who sell a product to know at least a little about what they're selling.

Ah but truth is all relative these days. Black and White facts are out of style. And after all, they are just chickens. (Sarcasm intended from this child of two teachers.)

Well I have to say that as a newbie there is little information out there that is completely accurate. Our state's Coop extension material is meager at best. Its accurate now that I know more, but I was lost reading it the first time. More like a quick start guide. I have wanted to learn a lot about my breeds of chickens but I find that most websites, including this one are not complete. They have good information, but it would be great to have pictures of all the alternatives for each breed. Plus different sites have different comments about the same breed.
I realize BYC is a website and a work in progress, but I have yet to find a site that has a complete list of breeds with photos.

I would also like to see a pronunciation guide. I called my Barred Rock a Bare-Red Rock until recently. And forget my first pronunciation of Wyandotte.

So it is something to get peeved about? Depends. I certainly have more to worry about, but I do spend way too much time researching chickens.

I think it would be a Delsummer, a breed whose roosters have particularly musical crows!

But don't get me started on the hash some people make of rabbit breeds.
