Am I the only one who grocery shops for the chickens?

I bought raisins for them the other day and a new box of oatmeal. I also buy them crickets from the pet store, now that it's cold and the bugs are not as plentiful!

Just got back from the store. So, I mixed, scratch, wheat bran, oatmeal, a lil molasses, walnuts, chopped apple, mixed birdseed and grit. Oh yeah, and raisins too. I melted a box of lard, mixed all together. Now I'm microwaving it. Not sure for how long yet. If it turns out too soft, I may have to just give them small amounts instead of the whole block.

OMG, what has happened to me?

Wow.. I make my chickies oatmeal and eggs and brown rice and eggs (sometimes I mix it with green beans or peas), and I usually buy squash, kale, cabbage or something.. They are always soo happy to get treats and I love to feed them.

Oh, my goodness! I thought I was the only one who shopped for my girls!

Last week I was shopping with my best friend & I was picking a lot of salad veggies and fruits that were on sale, they were for my hens. My friend starts to compliment me on feeding my family healthy foods & how she needs to get her family to start eating more healthier. I just about dropped the bananas I was holding! I just didn't have the heart to tell her that they were for my chickens. Feeling very guilt that night, I made a healthy salad to go along with our dinner and for dessert, we had strawberries with the bananas.

Not at all! Personally; I think growing a garden for them makes sense. It's grocery shopping for them that seems ridiculous to me, lol.

Well DH is already talking about what to plant in a garden (we have never planted a garden) but he and I both keep picking up extras to give to
the chickens. Its a nice feeling when they are waiting for you to come and let them out and to get their treats.
We and them had a blast with the extra pumpkin I had to get this year. (pretty sure we will plant them as well next year)

I buy organic yogurt for my hens, as well I pick up corn on the cob for them. Sometimes the local produce store sells their veggies for either a fraction of the retail price or free. It's usually getting toward the end of it's shelf life but it saves lots of money. It will otherwise be trucked away to be composted.

hahahaha, my Dh was just looking at me weird today as we went grocery shopping and I picked up groceries for the chickens. I only picked up 2 pounds of grapes and a few zucchinis, cottage cheese and some yogurt for them...I swear the rest is for us LOL

I always pick up a cabbage for them. They like to peck at it like a tether-ball! I also pick up extra fruit and veggies while I stroll the produce aisles... a cantaloupe for me, the rinds for the girls, corn for me, extra for the girls, grapes for me, extras for the girls, you get the picture. If I time it right, I get there while they're stocking and removing the old stuff. I can usually talk them into giving me a bag of "old stuff" for free!
