Am I the only one who grocery shops for the chickens?

I am guilty of it too. Whenever I go grocery shopping (particularly the Asian ones) sometimes they have greens for really cheap. Sometimes I can buy 3-6 iceberg lettuce for only a dollar. Or when I am lucky and see them outside trimming/ cutting the other layer of greens into a box to discard, I ask if I can have them to feed to my chicken. Some people are willing to give it to you because 1). they have no use for it 2). it free up any space in their trash can for other things. But their are other ones that won't give it to you, maybe it's a health reason.

It is kind of crazy, but this year my garden went completely to my chickens and my miniature doxies! It's so fun to watch them be excited. Don't forget peas, the chicks were absolutely CRAZY about their peas!

I go grocery shopping for my birds about every two weeks. Six bags of whole corn, two bags of wheat or whole oats, three bags of Flock Raiser, a bag of alfalfa pellets and one of gamebird starter and the occasional bag of crushed oyster shell.

Feed is cheaper when you buy it in bulk.

My DH says that it is silly to buy groceries for the chickens. But then he says they are just chickens. I know, right?

I have a pumpkins set out to take to them today. I buy turnip greens because they have lots of calcium. I buy yogurt and cottage cheese. They eat the cottage cheese off their own wooden spoon. BOSS....but I don't buy at the grocery store.

BUT.....my chickens are laying nicely now and all all big and healthy looking. So, I am doing something right! Just chickens....humph!
