Am I The Only One with WHITE bantam Houdans? Updated with PICS!

I'm sorry to say that I cannot think of anyone with bantam white Houdans. I will keep an ear open though as I know they are very rare. If you're not already you may wish to join the Polish Breeders Club as we also welcome breeders of Crevs, Sultans, and Houdans so who knows you might find a little flock of them hidden somewhere

If it's recessive you could breed the pullet to the cockerel and then line breed the male offspring back to her. The resulting offspring of that cross should bring back the white only white.

It won't hurt to breed them if they're related.

If you research the Houdan breed and find out what was used to make them originally (polish, etc..?), you could cross in the related breed to increase vigor and breed back to the pure Houdan, selecting towards the breed standard. If you're concerned about them being too inbred.

I would imagine the white houdan is recessive white. If you cross the white with the mottled you will get black offspring. Then back cross the white houdan hen with a black male offspring about 1/2 of the offspring will be white. I would imagine the white hen is carrying mottling also so you may get some mottled birds.

If you want to bring fresh blood into the white line get another unrelated male mottled houdan to mate with the female white houdan you produced and then back cross the white houdan hens with a black male offspring about 1/2 of the chicks will be white.

I did not read the previous post- so excuse any repeating information in my post.

Shows how much French I picked up in H.S. LOL

So

2 Crevecoeurs would be 2 Crevecoeur?

Which I have a trio of, by the way! LOL

Yes, and I took 4 years in H.S. and doubt I could hold a decent French conversation but I do remember some thing, lol.

This is very interesting. I have a white Polish hatch from an eggs that was labeled "buff laced Polish". I wonder if the same thing would apply?
Anyway, don't really want to hijack the thread, I would love to see someone answer with white houdan!

Tim,

Yeah, I was thinking it was recessive--especially since the guy I got them from told me that he's never had a white one in the 12+ years he's been breeding them?? I'm not sure if he was 100% honest, but that is what he told me.

Which if that IS true, my odds of getting another one are pretty slim! LOL Although I've seen some mottleds with excessive white...so those may be the ticket?

Because the male has developed a crossed bill, I will not be using him for breeding anyway and HAVE to get new blood...the white one seems to be fine although I need more! LOL

Thanks!
