I am going to hatch some eggs in a homemade bator and was thinking of using a humidifier to aid the jar of water. Thoughts? Also I have a reptile red 25 watt bulb and lamp. Only have 5 eggs

Hi Percyj! I don't know if you are wrong or right. Incubating & Hatching Eggs Important Topic Index.
Start reading the links there and see if that helps.
Good luck!

I think as long as the bulb produces enough heat it should be fine. If it doesn't then you will need a different bulb. As for the jar of water for humidity, you may want to play around with the incubator before attempting to hatch any eggs. See how much water in your jar = how high of humidity.

here are a few websites that may help you:

Good luck!

When I was raising the humidity in my incubator for the hatch, I put a glass of water in the incubator along with a wash cloth folded and placed in the glass of water and it seemed to work better than just having the glass of water in there.

Remember that the depth of the water is not what increases the humidity- surface area is what controls humidity. If you need less, give the air less access to surface area. If you need more, increase the surface area the air has access to. I wouldn't use a humidifier.
