Hello BYCers!

i have been bitten by the chicken love bug! Had been around them due to my cousins and grandparents having them, but not until a garden client wanted to give theirs away did i jump in.

Now i have a perfect number of layers to cover the needs of myself and a few neighbors and also incubate a few more each month to cover costs of feed. As far as feed goes, we did not have a lot of luck with big box suppliers last year and i had a very reduced yield. Fortunately, early this year we found an ORGANIC feed milling co-op that wanted us to be local distributors and found the quality so phenomenal, that 3-6 year old hens i thought i would have to slaughter this year, laid every other day from early February until now (the eldest went broody last week, though). Not making a fortune on grain, but getting to know locals who want high quality organics and buying in a bloc with them has been an awesome experience!

Love my feathered children and its been a lot of fun reading here.
