Amateur Hour Coop Raising

where did you get those windows?

I found them on craigslist. Someone pulled them out of an old trailer and I thought they'd be perfect for our coop. I'm happy with how they turned out.

thats a great looking coop! I really like the design.

That looks really great. And you're really making progress on it. Keep us updated!

Thanks! We've never done anything like this so it's fun seeing how it turns out. We're building the run and hopefully putting up shingles this weekend and then deciding what to do about siding. Haven't quite decided what we want the outside to look like yet. I'll post some more photos when the run is up.

Finally started construction on the run. We got 3 sections of hardware cloth up last night. It will be completely enclosed and buried a foot down. Trying to find a good bright blue color for the door to the run.

That's a nice coop you guys have built there. Looks like it will get plenty of fresh air exchange. The white interior really brightens it up in there. One thing I can recommend, is to hang your feeder. When it's low like that, you may find the chickens will bill out and waste feed. Also they'll get up there and take dump in it. Hang it with a light chain from the ceiling, chicken back high.

I was looking at those kind of windows last night. I found some pretty cheap on eBay and a couple on craigslist too.

I really like them so far. They work quite well, but we did have to buy some extensions for the window cranks because they were hitting the 2x4's.

Thanks for the advice! Both the water and food are hanging now. I just didn't have the hook the first night they were in the coop. I'm hoping to make the interior a little more fun, but we were trying to make it functional so that we could get them out of our house.

Once the run is complete I'll be able to do a bit more with aesthetics.

Finally got the run up and functional! All that's left to do now is nesting boxes on the back, shingles on the roof, and siding!

beautiful job!! your coop looks really nice and your chickens look happy too. I too built mine from the ground up the only thing i would change is I would build it higher off the ground so they had shade and to make it less attractive for mice
