Hello..Does anyone else know this trick?
I know some Broody Hens just love Chicks and accept ones early on. Has anyone tried the old fashioned farm incubator?
I sort of did today..My Silkie hatched and raised 4 Chicks till they were 6 weeks old and today I picked up 11 Speckled Sussex Chicks that were crying and crying..I went out to my Coop and brought in that Silkie Momma and she now is raising my Sussex Chicks..:D..I totally am amazed she took them. I have an old friend who is 87 years young and raised chickens all her life. She told me this years ago and I never tried it before today...Tomorrow I'll call her and thank her for her amazing advice...:hugs

Wow! Good for your Silkie. She's a good mama! How old were the new chicks?
Day old chicks..I got them today..

They are so cute! The new chicks and the old. I have a Buff Orpington, Maggie, who is mothering her three chicks hatched just 11 days ago. I have 8 eggs in the incubator and may want to try to introduce them to her in another 13 days! Maybe it will work? You story was a success, lets hope it will work for Maggie too! She has a entire coop and run to raise her chicks. She takes them outside everyday! I put little treats of grass, or mealworms in the run for her to find for the chicks. Thanks for sharing, especially the pictures!!
