But Bank of America has 100% protection on it's Visa Debit card, so you actually have stronger protection on their Visa Debit than you would have on a regular Visa CREDIT card.
You MUST check out your bank's debit card policies as far as unauthorized use. They vary widely from bank to bank as far as what protection (if any) you have against unauthorized charges. It ranges from 100% like BofA's policy (and a lot of the larger competetors to BofA) to NO protection at all from some other banks - ie, you are completely liable for any unauthorized charges.
I have to ask - was it actually AMAZON itself you bought from, or one of their 3rd party 'partners' - ya know what I mean - some things on there you are buying from Amazon company directly, others you are buying from vendors set up to advertise their items on Amazon.
I've always been somewhat leery about ordering from those 3rd party partners on Amazon.
Good luck getting your money back! Sorry you are having to deal with this crud...

A word to the wise. You can get a card from the bank that you prepay a certain amount to it. Then use only that card online. Then if it gets hacked they can only get as much as you have on the card. Even with this option I don't buy anything online.
I don't know but Amazon is pretty secure. I agree that you might want to check your family and friends. You don't by chance have a teenage son? Not to be disrespectful, but teenagers have been known to do some stupid stuff in the throws of hormonal change.
I've literally ordered hundreds of times from Amazon and never had a problem, but I'd definately contact them if you are concerned.
that's interesting cause i went to the store to buy food the other day and my debit card got declined. went home and had a look and there were all these .com charges that ended up being over 250 bucks. our house payment bounced and well it's a huge mess now. the bank says they are investigating and we have to call all the numbers but they said the numbers are usually bogus. normally we point the finger at me cause sometimes i forget i buy stuff but i haven't ordered anything in over a month. sorry this happened to you.
sorry arlee no BOA's here, i love my bank they've been great and i hope they don't prove me wrong. i use to bank with a large bank money was always going missing (sil worked there and was helping herself) so i moved to this 3 branch small town bank and have never missed any money til now.
If you have a paypal account, you can use a paypal virtual credit card that is one time use only. I don't use any card but those online anymore. Works like a charm.

This happened to me last month, and coincidentally Amazon is one of the few companies I made purchases from with that card. I hadn't used the card in months, then got an e-mail alert as I was suddenly $600 overdrawn.
Luckily Bank of America refunded everything. They outright told me they won't do anything about it though, even though they have the contact details of the criminal. He even used my card to advertise his car twice. They have too many claims, and unless it is one huge amount or someone doing it repeatedly, they do not prosecute. I thought the criminal was dumb having stuff shipped to his house, but they know they will not get prosecuted.
