One of my Amber Links started laying this week. I got them as new babies at TSC, (April 3) and have had them for 17 weeks tomorrow. They have been free ranging for the last week, and I've only found one egg in the laying box. It was even a double-yolker! That was on Saturday morning. I haven't found one in there since, so it's making me wonder if she's laying out in the yard now.
They do lay in other places besides nesting boxes. We found a clutch of eggs in a lily bed on the other side of a chain link fence. The hen would hop the fence, lay the egg and then find her way back in with the flock. But when our pullets started laying we got some weird eggs ranging from double yolks to witch eggs(really small eggs with no yolk.) and they didn't lay everyday for a couple of weeks. give them time. They will kick in and lay pretty heavily.
We have 6 red sex links (21) weeks old and 6 amber links (20) weeks old and the have been laying for about 2-3 weeks. We let them free range during the day and close the fence gate when they return to the coop at night. We have found eggs in the nest boxes, on the floor of the coop in a soft pile of pine shavings, on one of the glider chairs on our deck and even in a five gallon bucket about half full of last winter's fireplace ashes. We have found as many as three eggs a day in the bucket, so they really like the ashes. It's like an Easter egg hunt every day!
I have amber Links and they are beautiful birds. Mine lay every day to every other day smallish brown egg. When they become full grown they have some brown on them. This is normal... I have solid white ones and white with brown. They are good and listen very well.
Two of my Amberlinks started squatting today when I tried to pick them up! Does this mean that they will start laying soon? they are somewhere around 19-20 weeks
I am trying to find out if my wee one is an Amber star sexlink. Also I am not sure what is meant by Feather sexing ? / Not colour sexing? I know this sounds daft but I dont; know what I am looking for and am despirate to find out if she is a girl!!!!!! I am not allowed to keep roosters here and she is such a pretty wee love.
Well if anyone can let me know I would be grateful.
