Amber links?

What is an Amber like? What will it look like?

We got some red sex links, then when we went back to the store, they had Amber links. We got some just cause we like chickens and thought a few more wouldn't hurt, lol. The ambers are yellow where the reds are kinda redish-brown. We were just hoing that someone had an idea what they were crossed from.

It is almost certainly a Leghorn hybrid.

I got 5 Amberlinks from TSC a week ago. When I googled them I found this...

Also found this: The AmberLink is a rhode based hybrid, mostly white with amber flecks in its feathers. It has a lovely docile nature and will lay 290 light brown eggs in the first year.

Also: The Amberlinks lay well and are a cross between the RIR and Light Sussex

Amberlink is just another name like the red sex link...there are many different varieties. If you want more information on the different varieties of red sex links along with black sex link chickens, read http://backyardpoultry.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/sex-link-chickens-and-more/.

That has descriptions of each and it says what the different names are supposed to be crosses with, but of course not all hatcheries are going to actually go with the "correct" names.

They lay brown eggs, and are considered a hybrid breed.

Hmmm that page says that Amberlinks are made with RIR and White Rock, wonder if they use different light/white chickens to make the same cross. The info I found said Light Sussex was what was used.

Yeah, that is very possible. Like I said, that is just a rule of thumb, it varries a lot from hatchery to hatchery, they basically just name them whatever they want now. But I would believe that it is less common for it to be crosses with a sussex just because they are not as common as a white rock.

Another thing is the link you had was going to a company that really gave them their own name DEKALB AMBERLINK, so I am not suprised it is different. It is just one of those things.
