We currently have two seperate flocks of six hens each. One is a backyard flock and the other is in a rural location so we can have a rooster. They are RIR/white rock cross (Amber sexlinks?) We would like to breed them to an RIR rooster to be specific. I'm well aware that they will not have sexlink chicks from this.
Will re crossing RIR into the ambers be viable? Im assuming the generations would just become more RIR dominant correct? Would there be a better breed rooster option that might breed some broody into them? Or is that just out?
The birds are layers and we just want to sustain the flocks thru breeding and maintain quality hens with out winding up with barn yard mutts that are a waste of time.
Thanks
