Ameracanas and egg color

Yet another colored egg layer question: some say they have Ameraucanas, while others call them Easter Eggers.

Is there a difference and if so how you determine which is which?

I'll have to go check all my EE girls & teen age Ameraucana girl's ear lobes.

In my older flock (1 yr & 5 months old) I have 5 EE girls. 4 lay green, but diff shades and one lays a light one. I use to think it had a pinkish tint to it, but now it just kinda blends in w/ my RIR & SLW eggs.

I have my teenage flock of 4 EE girls and one EE girl just started laying. She has laid 5 cute, little tan pullet eggs so far this week. I have 3 more teenagers EE girls that I'm waiting on to lay and hope they lay me some green eggs.

My 4 Ameraucana girls are a week younger than the teenage EE girls, so it will be a little longer until I see those pretty blue eggs.

OK, I'm going to go look at ear lobes todat and report back.

The earlobe thingy doesn't work on easter eggers. There is no way on knowing what color eggs they will lay until they lay them.

That makes sense since they are mutts. Shhhh!!!! Don't let my sweet babies hear that word.

It is interesting info about pure breeds that I've never heard before.

We were told the color of the hen's legs play a part in determining her egg color.

True Ameraucanas are suppose to have red ear lobes and lay blue eggs.
Americanas aka Easter Eggers have no ear lobe standards and can be any color. The same hen lays the same colored egg but fades as the laying season progresses until they moult.

There are a lot of myths out there so I'd say you need to go to the site: ABC Sharing Place and read the truth about either bird you are pursueing. HS

Check out this site. It might help.

The EE are a mix that usually they come from a hatchery. Since they are a mix they can have interesting traits and you won't know what color egg they will lay until they lay it.

Ameraucanas are a true breed. They have muffs, beard, rump (tail), slate legs and lay a blue egg. If you want the true breed Ameraucana you must get them from a reputable Ameraucana breeder.

I have both breeds and love them all.

I didn't actually click on the earlobe link until just now. I just read about it.

Those are some really blue ear lobes. I didn't realize that it was a silkie they were talking about. I don't know of any silkies that lay blue eggs either, but that would be neat, though.

I just found this post and wanted to say that I just realised that a few of my EE's have mint green colored earlobes and lay the exact color of egg. Just thought this was interesting. One of my EE's that lays more of an olive green colored egg has red ear lobes.
