After reading on the Ameracauna thread and being a newbie at all this- I wanted to post a few pictures of 2 of my hens that I purchased from local farm store. I was told these were Ameracaunas but they have different facial features but pretty much same coloring,
What do you think?
Thanks

Feed stores do not sell pure Ameraucana. The only hatchery that sells pure Ameraucana is Meyer, and they only have blue available. Most hatcheries have Easter Eggers that they sell as Ameraucana, Araucana, or Americauna. You have Easter Eggers. I have one almost identical to your first one.

Thanks- they haven't started laying yet so I haven't seen the egg color.. Another question- what age do EE start laying? Mine are almost 21 weeks. I have 11 hens- 2 EE, 3 Barred Rocks, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Cuckoo Marans and 2 Golden Star. They were all born around the same time - Rocks are 3 days older than the rest. I am getting 2-3 eggs a day and pretty sure it is the Stars laying but may have more because of egg color. I had 3 eggs one day and two were a brown and the other was light brown.
I have one Buff Rooster that attacked me yesterday but I popped him good and went back out today and watched my back and he didn't try anything- but I was ready.
Any help on when the rest of the girls may start laying would be appreciated..:p

I have six barred Rocks and all lay shades of brown. One lays an almost pinkish egg. Even if they are the same breed, there will be differences in egg color. The only ones you likely be able to tell the breed by looking at the egg would be the Marans and the Easter Eggers. All the rest lay shades of brown. You red sexlinks and Rocks are the most likely to start laying first. Easter Eggers, Marans, and Orpingtons are a bit slower to mature.

I agree.
