Ameracauna or EE?

The hen I am referring to is on my profile picture, with a baby from her first brood. Not a great picture.

Hello! There is so much confusion with the Ameraucana and Easter Egger breeds! I was so confused when I got my first "Ameraucanas" which were actually Easter Eggers! When I was learning about these breeds I read a wonderful article that I refer to all the time with myself and other BYC members. Instead of taking all the info from that article and writing it here, I would love to share it with you if you don't mind. Here is the link

It also includes includes info about Araucanas which are confused with Ameraucanas and EE's as well. One thing I would like to add that the article doesn't say is that while EE's can have any color legs/feet they are normally green/slate colored. If you would like to put pics here too, I would love to help identify if your chicks are Ameraucanas or Easter Eggers with you!

I also agree with Alex that if they all look different they are most likely EE's. And like Alex, I'm wondering where you got the chicks? Good luck and hope this helps!
I found your wisdom useful, as I am trying to figure out if my hen is an Ameraucana or an EE? I read the article that you shared with the link, on how to determine the difference between the 3 breeds. I am even more confused because my hen has the colors of an EE, ( looks just like the one in the link) has blueish whitish ears, greyish feet and ALWAYS lays blue eggs. BIG ones! When I bought her, from the local feed store, they said that she was an Ameraucana. Her offspring from brood #1 (which the father was a Barred Rock) are a variety of fluffy cheeks and non fluffy cheeks. Also they are black with fluffy cheeks. Some are black AND don't have fluffy cheeks and look like Australorp's! Weirdness. One has the colors of a Barred Rock and has fluffy cheeks. But NONE from her first brood turned out at all brown as adults, even though most were brown as chicks. Her second brood, with a Roo Wyandotte, turned out as 3 pullets and 1 roo. The pullets look like their mom and the Roo is a spitting image of his dad. I love it! Anyways, I got off topic a little. I just thought I would share and would like to hear what your thoughts and opinions are. Ameraucana or EE, I love both breeds but I would really like to know what she is. I will even try and post a picture tomorrow.

My guess would be you have an EE. Honestly I've never met a feed store that advertises "EE" chicks. They always say they are selling Ameraucanas, but really they are just selling EE's. So anytime you buy "Ameraucanas" from a feed store, truly you are just buying Easter Eggers. You also mention that your hen looks just like the EE hen pictured in the article, which definitely tells me you have an EE hen. Ameraucanas come in six recognized colors, now I'm not sure what all the colors are because I'm not an Ameraucana expert, but if your hen looks like the EE hen in the article, it is not a recognized color and therefore not an Ameraucana. So hopefully this wasn't to confusing. :/ And hopefully it helps you! Also, Ameraucanas should always be sold as one of their recognized colors, so if you ever look into getting a true Ameruacana, make sure they are always sold with a color.

With her first brood.
Definitely an Easter Egger! :)
