Hey all! Got a question about genetics here. Hopefully I'm in the right forum location.

If you cross a silver Ameraucana roo, with a splash Ameraucana hen, based on my understanding, you would get an EE? Is that correct? I'm not an expert with chicken genetics, lol. But my research has said that if you don't breed Ameraucana's true to their color, you end up with an EE.

And am I right in saying that in all actuality it is a true Ameraucana, but it just isn't a recognized variety?

Second, what would the chicken look like if I crossed a silver Ameraucana roo with a splash Ameraucana hen?

Thanks in advance!!

In actuality, that cross would produce a mixed color ameraucana. Silver x splash would get you blue offspring with some silver leakage (mostly on the hackles, though roosters may also have it on their shoulders and saddle).

It would still be a purebred ameraucana, but not a standardized color. I'm not sure if silver is an ameraucana color, but I don't have them all memorized- I just haven't really heard it before.

Silver is a color of ameraucana. It’s genetically silver duckwing.
