Ameraucana genetics question- getting a bunch of blue chicks!

This is why I adore mutt chickens! Every nest is a surprise basket of goodies. I would so like to know what your blue chicks turn out like later.

This is why I'm scared lol. I like baskets of goodies! I've currently got 5 eggs waiting for a 6th to go into the incubator. Ayam Cemani roo over a 16wk old Cornish X hen.

No joke lol.

I also have Tarbox Hollow BBS Ameraucana youngsters (6wks, 1wk, and 12 eggs from Deer Run Farms coming in a few weeks), 5 more Ayam Cemani youngsters, and 20 16wk old Barred Rock girls.

To say I'll have surprise goodies is an UNDERSTATEMENT! 😜

I am not an expert on Chicken genetics, but I did not pay $20 for my Americanas and they have beards and have just started laying the most beautiful sky blue eggs.

Your choice of the word 'Americanas' may or may not be a spelling error, but it's very likely you don't have actual Ameraucanas. They are not the same breed, and it's very confusing for people that are looking for actual Ameraucanas.

Well, technically EE's are Ameraucana crossed over another breed or mutt. Almost all of them lay mostly green, sometimes blue/pink/brown, and they almost all have beards. I have loved every EE I had, but currently I have black and lavender Ameraucac that lay bright blue eggs. Cackle Hatchery sells Black, Blue, Splash, White, Lavender and I think Wheaton Ameraucana. I see Meyer has some too. Cackle Ameraucana are nice birds. Most hatcheries will claim they have Americana (notice the spelling) and they are actually EE's. I've never found any for sale for low prices.

Well I was gifted this lumpy rooster that was said to be a true ameraucana. His coloring is gorgeous but since he’s malformed, he’s destroying the hens because he loses his balance and just grips tighter and attacks them. (no feathers on backs, back of heads, or right shoulder, some getting black and blue bruises all over their backs even with saddles on. ). I plan to cull him now that I finally had two hens go broody.

But here’s the kicker. Out of a mixed flock of hens, so far I’ve seen four brown eggs and two blue hatched and FOUR of the chicks appear to have the blue feather coloring.

Does this roo have some sort of extra special genetics that give a high ratio of blue? Or would any ameraucana roo do the same? I really think I need to cull this guy due to the damage he’s causing but I don’t want to eliminate a blue producing genetic line if it’s rare. Also what is his coloring??? Haven’tfound a an example like him yet!

Also attached a few photos of the first three blue chicks out of five. They came from four brown eggs and one blue. A mix of different breeds for the hens but at BEST, only one from an ameraucana hen.
I am no americauna breeder but you say he is deformed but beautiful if you want my advice for what its worth never breed from any animal that is deformed in any way as these traits will be passed on to the prodgeny always pick the best of your breed chooks included it may be possible to pick out the best of the young ones bred from this rooster but be ruthless in your selection other wise you may be disapointed in the futue in nature only the fittest survive to breed so keep this in mind maybe one of our Americauna breeders will give you advice on colour selection....

Next spring my main pens will be almost entirely populated with various EE's lol. Fibro EE's, Barred Rock EE's, and Cornish Cross EE's. All with my BBS Ameraucana. I've got a separate coop and run I'll use specifically for breeding true.

I don't think it's right at all. I think it's outright immoral actually.

It’s not right that they do but it’s legal. They usually spell it Americana/Americauna instead of the right way. So that can sometimes be a giveaway.

Exactly...but I often see it spelled correctly. TSC sells Ameraucana chicks that are screaming obvious Easter Eggers.
