I have an Ameraucana hen whose foot is injured and I am not sure what to do. I have treated lethargic chickens, scissor beak chickens, and generally sick chickens, but nothing like this. I went to collect eggs and I found her sitting in one of the boxes, which isn't out of the ordinary, but then she got up when I checked for eggs under her and she limped around. I picked up up and check her foot and on one of her toes the tip is black and looks rather bad. She is one of the stand off-ish birds and doesn't really interact with me much so I didn't see it until now.
Any advice on how I should treat this would be appreciated!

:welcome It looks as if her toes got frozen/frost bitten. Eventually the black part will fall off much like her middle toe did. You could actually carefully remove the 'dead' part with a pair of dog nail clippers.

That is so weird because the cold has passed and I didn't see it before. Would it hinder her ability to walk? I don't want it to get worse and am not sure what to use to clean it. I do not have Vetericyn. Some have said hydrogen peroxide and warm water with a little salt. I don't want to hurt her.
