Ameraucana males or females?

I know it’s too early but I am CONVINCED this is a male, since I brought her(him) home it’s had a rooster attitude 😂 thought? View attachment 2086021View attachment 2086022

Yup I think mine might be a roo seeing some similarities in the comb and she (he) has that same messy feather look as the feathers are coming in! Mines 3 weeks so probably have to wait a little longer to confirm!

and yes yours is so handsome! I love his colouring

Thank you so much!

Yes please share more pics when it gets a little older :)

I think I have a couple more chick pics of little cockerels to compare.. I noticed with pea combs, the more rows and details you can see at a very young age, like several weeks, usually they turn out being cockerels. Not always the case! But its what I've noticed. Also, males tend to feather out slower than females, hence the messy patchy feathering at that age. Again, might not always be the case, which is why sexing chicks can be such a challenge!

Here is another young cockerel, He's a really handsome boy now. But if you look carefully at his baby comb, it was pretty detailed, I think.
This is him several weeks ago!

Wish I had better pics, but this buff chick is a pullet. A bit older, maybe over 6 weeks old? but maybe you can see how small and pale her comb is, even when a bit older.

Not the greatest examples sadly, I should have taken more pictures of her as a baby chick... But hope maybe you see what I mean with the males? I'm no expert, but I love to share and chat about it

How are these chicks doing now??? Getting big and colorful I hope? Haha..

Wow! They're looking great!!! Thanks so much for sharing, the black one does come off as a cockerel a bit? The White one is still tricky, could be either or? How old are they now?

I have to be honest and embarrass myself. The blue/gold Easter Egger I showed off and said was a cockerel? Well- consider the age now, and having all rounded feathers..... Its actually a pullet!!!! Gahhhh. I was so dead set believing it was a male!!! But I was wrong!! There goes to show you though, those darn chicks are tricky.
The Darker blue and red one is still quite the handsome roo, however ;)

Just had to throw it out there. I feel like such a sucker and a fool!

Haha oh my! What a surprise! That give me hope though that my daughters favourite chicken can still be a pullet! 🤞 Thank you for the update! I will keep you updated on them 😊

Those two are definitely looking a bit roosterish to me but hopefully they’re female!! The neck feathers on the white one look nice and rounded to me and on males they’re usually pointed. Also I think the white birds usually get red leakage on the neck and shoulders if they’re males at least from what I’ve seen but of course not always.

Also I know it’s already been addressed but if he said they’re also called EEs then I would say they definitely are. :)

True Ameraucana and Araucana are never called that. They’re very particular about it haha

You can also tell by how the chicks are all different colors.

True Ameraucanas are usually sold by the color. So for example, Black Ameraucana, Wheaten, etc. they wouldn’t just sell them as “Ameraucana”, because most people are looking for a specific color. And if they were selling a bunch of colors, they would still likely list all the colors they’re selling.

They also only lay blue eggs whereas EEs could lay blue, green, pink, olive, even possibly brown depending.

And EE can be basically any feather or egg color.

Hope that helps.

Your birds are very pretty. :love
