Ameraucana or Barred Rock

I got them from Orschelns farm & home supply in Lawrenceburg Indiana when they were in the process of moving to their new location down the road. They were all in the same bin labeled "Araucana."

Mount Healthy Hatchery is only an hour away in Cincinnati so thats probably where they came from. They all sorta looked the same to me when I got them but now they are all looking different.

I will try to get some better pics of them. I hope there is a mixture of different breeds. I really hope there are some BRs in there & now I am anxious to know what the rest of them are!

does the barred one have a pea comb like the others??? I have a barred rock / EE mutt here that I hatched.. He carries the EE/ara/amera peacomb

So becuase he's a cockerel, I don't know what egg color he'd produce.. LOL.. but I do believe you are still good with the EE's of 10

I actually have 4 with the barred pattern but 1 of them is lighter than the other 3 & has a larger comb.

Males can carry 2 copies of the barring gene, which produces a lighter coloured bird. Females can only carry one copy, and thus are darker. Males carryoing only one copy are similar in colour to the females.

So the lighter colored one is a male BR & the other 3 darker ones could be male or female BRs ? That leaves only 6 more to identify.

By the looks of the couple of pics you have shown of the BRs... And you said the other two look just like the darker one, then it sounds like you do have a quad of BRs... Congrats!!! BRs are the best and sweetest chickens and are very full of character. The rest of the chickens in the pics are EEs, by the way they look
