I'm sure this forum gets lots of questions like this but I just wanted to double check. I have the chance to purchase a 3 week old lavender ameraucana pullet from someone local that got extras from a hatchery. However the chicks she has left are more of a buff color but she says in the sunshine they look more lavender. I assumed that any hatchery that would sell lavender ameraucanas would sell them as purebred but I could be wrong.
I am not looking for a hen to breed, I just want some colorful eggs in my basket. But I do already have an Easter Egger and would really like an Ameraucana. There is also a breeder that I have purchased from before who will have true Ameraucana chicks in a few weeks. The only issue with that is they are all straight run and definitely I need a pullet.
My phone won't let me upload a photo right now but I will try later. I know the feather pattern on the wings is very similar to a lot of Easter Eggers but the down feathers are not at all. The new feathers coming in are buff with gray bars (almost lavender?) but the baby feathers are the gray/lavender color you would expect to see but then there are touches of orange on the head and a little on the chest. Do some lavender chicks from the hatchery first start to feather out like this? What are all of your opinions? Thanks!
