Ameraucana or EE? Pullets or Roos?

Oh my! They are such beautiful girls! Thank you so much for the pictures! Your explanation of the green slate leg color makes it a bit easier to understand. I keep looking at mine and some appear to have a greenish cast. The black and white one seems to have more of a slate color to her legs. I wanted blue eggs but I’ll be happy with green as well. Do you know if my black and white considered a silver?

What age did yours start to lay eggs? I’m afraid I’ve done so much research on AMs because that’s what I thought I had! Now I must begin to learn more about EEs. They seem to have a very sweet personality. They will hop up on my knee or even my shoulder when ever I come around.

Yes they are amazing birds.. They are late layers mine starting around 8-9 months so don't get worried if it seems like they are very late. EE are just mixed AM and another breed but not sure what with. EE can lay pretty much any color as well, although I only see green in mine. Enjoy your birds, and if you want blue eggs I suggest getting them from a small breeder and asking if they will lay blue eggs only. My profile pic is a blue egg layer, lavender AM

You have some very pretty EE pullets there. Most feed stores and even hatcheries sell them as Ameraucana. True AM have slate legs and beaks, lay only blue eggs. My EE have slate to green legs and all 3 lay shades of green eggs. A wonderful addition to any flock. My 3 are in picture with my AM rooster in the back. View attachment 1801119

Hi Rietta! I thought I would update you on pictures and eggs. They started laying a week ago. The color of the first egg was green but then I started getting a gray color too? It was suggested to break open the eggs and quickly remove the membrane. If they were not white on the inside, they might be Ameraucanas? So here are updated pics of the pullets and the eggs before and after removing the membranes (the brown egg is from a BSL). Do you still think the black and white is an EE? Just curious because of the unusual egg color.
You were 100% correct! They are such a sweet addition! I really enjoy their personality’s. They enjoy lots of attention!!!

Thank you Featheredplanets! I thought so too. Since she has only laid 3, I’m wondering if they will change color as she gets older. It seems my others did. My BSLs were my first ever birds and they are about 18 months old. I have one that lays brown, one lays brown speckled and the other seems lays a half brown that fades to peach on most days! My carton should be multicolored to say the least!

Sorry for the long absence, things get downright crazy! Life. Yes I am sure they are Easter Eggers.. Sure you know by now, people are confused by the terms Ameraucana (with a U) and Americana (with I aka Easter Egger) And lots of people mix them up and sell them as the wrong bird. I got 3, I asked These are from blue egg parents and will lay blue eggs. she said Yes! ….They lay green eggs. Still nice birds though. The gray is most likely Blue with a very light brown over it. Only 2 colors of shell, blue and white. Other colors come from the "coating" or bloom put onto the egg by the hen as far as I know. The eggs MAY only lighten or darken a bit but will stay the same color. Very pretty eggs and hens! I have a soft spot for the AM breed.
