I have two ameraucana pullets. I'd say they're a little over 4 weeks old. Fully feathered. They're inside with me - still under a heat lamp on those cold days (we're in New England- sigh). They're usually very sweet. They come out to me and sit with me - unlike my other experiences with chicks. But sometimes they jump on each other? Like flapping, claws out and land on the other one's back? A lot of flapping and squawking.

What's that all about? They get along otherwise - as far as I know. And they aren't aggressive towards *me*. As far as I can tell it doesn't seem to happen when there's stress, or when they are fighting over food...Best I can tell it seems to happen when they are out of the cage and looking for a good place to perch....only it seems very deliberate to me - landing right on the other one's back.

I was assured that they were both pullets - but even so - isn't it too early for any mating behavior?

Why are they doing that?

(and no - I don't recall if its one or both that are doing it - I guess that's important, huh?)
