20lbs Of Organic Starter Feed Crumbles For Free

Frost Ranger answered very well above, so I will not need repeat.
Here is a little info on Layer feed, and 16% protein.
16% is bare bone minimum. Many peeps use it still because of the entry level cost.
My Alflock is 18% protein. I'm happy with it.
Protein is a higher price ingredient in chicken feed. That is why manufacturers try to keep it as low, as they can.. to maximize their profits.
Remember, that they are dealing with tons of it,, so the $$$ do add up.

I am seeing people also adding oyster shells… is this too much calcium?
Chickens will simply not ingest all those oyster shells in their feed. They will just leave them in the dish. That is why it is suggested to offer them free-choice. Chickens do know what they need.

Here is my current flock of Banties.
Left to right.
The largest in the crowd, Mystery Game hen. (rescue)
Smaller black,, Serama
White with black tail tip. Japanese Bantam
Below her,,, Serama
All the way to right,, American game hen bantam

Thanks for the wisdom. I will take a look into Alflock 18%- Is that the brand name? I couldn’t find it. Your flock is great. I love the colors on your American game hen, the feet too! So tall with the three toes. Bantams have captured my heart indeed. Again, I greatly appreciate the knowledge. This resonates with me and clears my questions and concerns.

Alflock is a generic term that can also be a name. I buy mine at the local farm store. It is their house brand that I purchase.
Alflock,,, means one feed that can be used for multiple types of birds. Chickens,, Guinea fowl ,, turkeys,,, ducks,, and so on.
