Ameraucana sexing

I’ve found that usually by 4-5 weeks I can tell which are going to be boys. Some of the more recent ones I’ve hatched I’ve been able to suspect the Roos by 2 weeks. I’m new to raising Ameraucana’s but I’ve hatched about 10 batches so far this year and have another 2 incubating 🤣
Wow. I’ve been able to tell on straight comb breeds around 3 weeks, but this is my first year with pea combs. I got these babies straight run so I’m pretty happy with the ratio. I’m hoping to start breeding them next year.

I’d love to breed some next year as well. I had a predator kill off half my flock and I’m desperately trying to play catch up so I can have a decent stock for next year.

I had the same thing happen a couple of months ago. A neighbor’s dogs killed half of my flock, including my first ameraucana rooster, who I’d only had a few months. That’s part of why I got these chicks trying to rebuild my flock.

Aww, I’m sorry! How many Ameraucana’s do you have now? Is the blue boy in the pic your only cockerel?

I’ve got 4 ameraucanas right now, and the blue one is the only ameraucana boy. I have s couple of Easter eggers and a lot of other breeds as well though.

My current flock king is actually a Japanese bantam, haha. I have 4 other mixed breed cockerels and an oopsie cuckoo marans boy as well. Still trying to figure out what to do with some of them.

Hahaha. I have some random breeds as well. I think most of them will make a nice meal in a few months 🤣
