Oh he's looking good! I miss him, but I'm happy he's got a good home with you.

He got this boy from me, but was out of eggs I bought directly from John, so I can tell you that he's right at 7 months old now, so he does have a little more filling out to do. In fact, a lot of the B/L Splits are still really small, but I think he looks like he's going to turn out to be a pretty nice size. I miss him, he was such a friendly male, but I also bought 2 Lavender cockerel from John this summer and had them shipped, so I didn't need a third boy.

This male and one of the female Lavender/Black Splits from the same hatch had lighter beards. I keep meaning to ask John if they might be only heterozygous for beard and muffs. Could be, as they're still considered project birds and not perfected yet.

He had the best comb when I had him, and I remember pointing that out when I sold him. I think it still looks really good. It's kept it's shape very well, and is nice and tight.

ya he is real leggy right now the frame is there he is just skinny still... im thinking about putting him on a game bird grower for a few weeks and see if that helps... but im pretty happy with him so far

Hi Ann,

God's speed with the knee surgery and quick/full recovery.

I thought I'd let you know that I put three W & BW hens in a breeding pen a little over a month ago. Then a week later we got a cold snap come through that kept the temps hovering around 20 in the day and 10 at night. Stopped up those gals from laying cold. Pun intended. After more than a month of no eggs I just got my first egg in the pen yesterday so I should be able to put a rooster on them pretty soon.

I have to tell ya, my WBS gals are giving me fits in the production department. How are your birds in that area? Are they as fickle as mine? How is your production and production consistency?

God Bless,

God Bless,

My girls are just starting to lay so I have no stats yet. One of them is laying a jumbo egg though. Cold weather does not shut my birds down once they start laying. I'm looking for a SQ blue or black cockerel for my BBS girls. I will be mating Magoo with that BW and W pair of pullets that I have, would prefer two more girls to work with but have not been able to find any yet.

Haven't been on here for a while.

I've learned A LOT.

Jean, you'll have to walk me through how to send you one of his babies back to you....I've never sent eggs or birds.

I can see it takes TIME, patience and LOTS of birds to cull through.

wondering if my wife will have the patience for that...

I'm getting info for the show to be held down here on the 27th.

Looks like I may not be able to do it because I haven't had any testing done on my flock.

Guess I'll just enjoy what I have and sell eggs and birds locally for a while.

M-

You can show Jeoffrey. I think all you would need is the paperwork I sent with him. It was attached to the shipping box.

He has been vaccinated for ILT also. When showing in your neck of the woods I would recommend vaccinating for Coryza also.

He'll probably always be a little lighter than a pure solid black, because of the breed outcross to get the Lavender color. You have the size/height though, so that's half the battle, because a lot of the splits still have bantam genes and aren't much bigger than the bantams.

I had mine on gamebird for a few weeks to bring them out of molt quicker, because I was only getting about 3 or 4 eggs a week. It did help somewhat and everyone is back to laying again and looking much better.

I've now switched all my pullets and hens over to a 22% layer feed that they just started getting at one of the feed stores here, and everyone looks amazing and is so much "meatier" all of a sudden. If I'm not mistaken the brand is called Prime Quality. They also make a lower percentage protein feed, but if you can find this 22 percent it's really good for your females. I've heard layer is fine to give it to mature roosters too, but the calcium is hard on the juvenille males systems. Just thought I'd mention it since I'm so happy with it. I also like Pilgrims 20% layer pellets with fish meal but it's a bit higher priced.

Yeah! I want to see em. After my knee surgery and once I am home recovering I plan to fill my bator. I will need some hatching eggs mid Feb. Put me on your list.
