Illia... here's a pic I took yesterday, she isn't wet but I think you might be able to see how not-fluffy she is.

She seems like a healthy bird, just lacking in the plumage dept.!

Her tail looks pretty tattered, too. I guess she's just my ugly duckling!

p.s. To all you ameraucana folks, I promise not to dilute this topic with any more EE stuff after this. I probably shouldn't have posted here to start with, sorry.

Psshh nonsense. You asked a question and you got an answer. It's not like you came in here demanding we call her an Ameraucana

She's probably just been through a lot or doesn't preen herself enough. Is there a rooster around? She looks normal to me, just not top quality.

Looking at her dry but ratty feathers I'd say she just has been walking through things that roughed them up and she hasn't straightened them out yet. That or the other hens love pecking at her when she's in the nesting box.

Nothing to seriously worry about.

That's actually not molt, it's wear and tear. Thankfully she's now molting because I hate seeing her in that shape, but I don't have a hen saddle. The wear and tear was from the cockerel "practicing" on her.

Caponize my Buff male? No way!!!!

I breed Buffs and he's my only male at the moment.

The wear and tear happened a long time ago, really. Early this spring.

I'd say order some. John Blehm has an order form for chicks, you can always place an order for Buffs and perhaps add a couple other colors while you're at it.
