Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Aye, and I'm hoping to contact him this spring for some eggs. According to his web page, he'll be attending the show in Indianapolis the last weekend of October, and I wish I had the cash to make the trip! It would be well worth it just to see the great chickens and talk to the breeders. *sigh*

Love love LOVE his color! He's the first brown red roo I've seen. Does anyone have pics of a hen? I think I wouldn't mind a trio of this color!

He looks more like a wheaten than a brown red. Where did you get him?

Ummm....Flame isn't a Brown-Red. Brown reds do not have red or brown color in the wing bay (exposed portion of secondaries when wing is folded)/ the triangle at the bottom of his wing. He looks exactly like the wheaten male lacking a few "particulars". His beard is gorgeous! Nice and black which is rare.

pips&peeps :

He's not a brown red, they don't have a colored wing bar. Looks like a wheaten to me.

A possible Wheaten with an impressively DARK black beard!

You beat me to it!

Hmm, I was wondering about the wing bar, but until today I had never been able to get a decent pic of him. A friend of mine went to a breeder just east of Nashville, Tennessee and bought the hatching eggs. I'll get ahold of her and ask if she bought any wheaten at the same time. Whatever he is, I think he's gorgeous.

Did you try the Ameraucana Breeder's List? I know Mike Gilbert breeds brown-red in LF. I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, the brown red variety of Ameraucana didn't wow me like most of the others did.

I think it would be a wonderful asset to the ABC to have more people focusing on the continuation of the brown-red ams. I wish you success in your pursuit.

I have looked at the ABC website, I only found two people who will ship live birds, (Mike is one) and I've sent them both emails. I don't have an incubator yet, hence the need for live birds. That and I'm kinda hoping to start with live birds and worry about hatch rates at a later date. Gonna have to bite the bullet and buy an incubator if I get a project, but...
