I miss hatching season.

I can't wait until I start up the incubators again!! I miss the peeps!!

Jean, those are very cute. Do you think they will keep the brown leg color? What color are you hoping for as the project progresses?​

They will all have the 'chocolate' colored legs... therefore probably won't be admitted to the standard.

But I can still make them!

We aren't having a great chicken week. My neighbor's dog killed two of my chickens Monday, one of which was my backup rooster.

He was the king of my flock and such a nice boy, except he had some silver leakage. I was going to use him to breed EE's from my laying flock. The other chicken was a sex link hen. The dog scattered my flock all over the place, and my best two black hens, including the one my daughter won with at the show last week, didn't come home that night.

I was sure they were goners.

I haven't said anything to the neighbors yet. First I was waiting to see if the hens would come home, then just because I was still to mad to be cure I wouldn't say the wrong thing.

We attend the same church, and I didn't want to over react.

I let my daughter handle it since she has the twins in her home room at school.

Then to top it all off, now my only Ameraucana rooster is a bit sick. He is sneezing and has a nasty nose.

I have him in quarantined in the house and am giving him antibiotics in his water. All the hens seem fine.

I hope he will recover soon. I am getting worried I will be buying eggs not hatching my own again next year. I will wait until spring and shop for a back up roo I guess. I have to many hens for one roo to cover once hatching season starts.

Finally, a picture of all 5 of my Jean babies. They weren't easy to work with. A little too vigourous - poppin' hoppies - so I needed help to keep them safe!!!
