Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

A splash rooster will get 100% splash chicks with the splash hens and 50% blue, 50% splash with the blue hens. A black rooster will give you 100% blue with the splash hens and 50% blue, 50% black with the blue hens. A blue rooster will give you 50% blue, 50% splash with the splash hens and 50% blue, 25% splash, and 25% black with the blue hens. So I guess the question you need to think about is what color you want the most of running around if you hatch out their eggs. Also, keep in mind that most breeders seem to agree that splash to splash matings usually result in a "washed out" more white splash offspring and the best splashes come from eggs where at least one of the parents was blue.

Right. I must have missed the original post. Your best bet is to get a black roo. You will get all blue and black in your f1s, but it will supposedly help the blues with lacing. If you want to make more splash though, you will need a blue roo.

I will end up with 3 blacks, 3 lav splits, 3 lavs and 1 grown lav roo and 1 grown black roo and the baby lav roo too. Then there are the eggs for hatching

Thank you both very much! Just the info I was needing.

My third batch of 75% ameraucana possible chocolate project chicks should hatch today. Keep your fingers

for me, the last batch yielded 9 black, no chocolate.

Also have a few buff eggs in there too.

Are you breeding Choc males over Black hens? Did you only hatch boys then before?

Or are on using Choc splits now? That's when it gets tricky.

Using a little split male over the hens now.

The bantam ameraucana hens were too small to put a chocolate male over. They only weigh around 26 oz. (should've done AI)

The little guy I have has a nice little muff and beard and pea comb.

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction!
