Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

His color is neat, but, even for EE's his body is just too weird. I like sound looking mutts, and, I've got my Pips&peeps hen for making EE's with dun or other such neat colors.

In fact, check it out

Buff EE pullet. Should lay blue eggs. Notice her pale tips - Thanks to the dun color passing on, those are what keep her buff color instead of her being a more Wheaten-esque color.

Those pale tips will decrease more and more as she grows, but, for all I know they're as bad as the pure Buff Am male, just not as apparent on a decent buff colored female. For all I know, she's carrying blue or something too. Which if that were the case, then the Buff hen of mine is to blame, not the cock (who I would originally blame since his tail has khaki color in it)

Yes! That is exactly what a few pure buff roosters from my Meredith eggs looked like! I sent you some pictures of one of them as a chick and as a teenager quite awhile back. One of these buff x wheaten chicks (appears to be a pullet) has that same buff and lavender looking down as the birds that ended up with that coloring. Interesting

I have some going right now. They will not be able to become an accepted color though because the leg color will never be truely slate.

Do you have pictures of your birds you could post? I would really like to see them.

I'm still hatching babies, but here are some of the parents:

I just did this so I could get a few lavender cuckoos as yard candy. Some of the chicks are cuckoo and some are lav cuckoo.

If you can see that Marans peeking in the window? She follows me everywhere.

Beautiful birds! I do love the barred bird which I guess is a rooster? Is it the only barred one you have right now? Are you finding the hens lay a nice blue eggs? This is probably a dumb question but why can you not get slate colored legs on a barred colored chicken? Do you or would you sell hatching eggs?

I would say you have done a nice job on your yard candy. I like the one you are showing in the picture!

Two more of my babies! These are my John Blehm W/BWs.

.
Yes, she appears to have yellow legs. She is younger than Sola, but bigger. I am sure by now her legs should have their slate color, though. She's about 12-13wks.

So, would you breed or cull a yellow legged pullet? And by cull, I mean I'd put her in my EE pen... when it gets built.

ETA:
Yes, Sola is missing a toe! She was born with them all, but she was injured as a 1-3 day old and lost her toe as a result.

Cull the yellow legged one. Never breed her as a purebred, as it is recessive, and will continue popping up without extensive/focused test matings. That aside, she'd also need a good reason for staying around despite her leg color.
