Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Well Donna I have lots of great pictures, but can't seem to figure out how to put them here, even after watching the instructional video, so I guess we're just out of luck.

I've never seen legs that color though.............

Well Jean they should be darker but I do get some that are a lighter colored lavender and the legs darken up unless that bird possibly is also cuckoo. She will have to grow it out and see if the legs darken later. Hopefully she also has some blacks as she stated.

Donna,
I believe Cindy has some pictures on the Ameraucana Club site you can check out.

Here you go Donna, not the greatest picture, but you can see foot color. The chick on the left has some lighter toes, and so does the one on the far right. I have had chicks hatch from parents who free range and have a high pigment diet that do have some yellowish pads on the bottom of the feet at hatch, and this pigment goes away after a couple of weeks. I usually don't see it on the shanks. Not saying mine are right and yours is wrong, just saying take a look at them in a couple of weeks and if they are yellow, don't use them for your purebred lavender pen.

I cruse over there every once in a while. I saw lots of pretty birds hers included. One thing I think I am going to like is that I don't have to upload pics anymore. I just click and then select the pic and submit and it shows up in the thread. I don't think it is saving it anywhere else. It is really a lot like my email.

Will the yellow in her down go away... I noticed that most are lav at hatch, some have yellow, some have lots of yellow. She has lots of yellow, does that mean she is just going to be light? I am thinking since she is a sister to the roo and since they both have some of that yellow/blonde feather thing happening that she will have more than her share. I don't really like to breed brother and sister, but I don't know which one are her eggs. I will post pics of them all in a couple of weeks. I only have 1 lav pullet and 3 black pullets in the breeding pens.

This is the one I was looking for. This is pigment passed from the breeder bird through the egg to the chick. It disappears after a couple of weeks. It has a name something like Xanthrophyll. These birds grew up to have white skin.
