Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I hope you ordered the real thing, they're kinda hard to find when getting day old chicks.

Tail appears pinched/compact but it is hard to say, plus his pose is either hard to judge at least for me, or, he's too upright in carriage. How are his wings, normally? They're carried weird in the photo.

The one in back looks really nice from that tiny bit I see, but, I'm not the best judge anyway. From what I see, it's his tail that irks me. The rest seems pretty nice.

His saddle and his tail look pinched to me. He has good pattern, but that is secondary. I would also question his size with the pinch I am seeing in the back end. How much does he weigh?

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Thank you guys very much for responding.

What does Pinched mean? Too narrow? He definitely isn't that upright, he jumped up as soon as I went near him. I'll get some better pics of him. He is still pretty young so I would say he's probably roughly 6 pounds or so. Guess I need to go weigh him too.

I sell average quality (no major faults, but maybe not optimum tail color) POL girls for $20. BUT- I rarely have them available at that age, AND I never sell more than one without a rooster to go with them.
I have no market for them here though- because of all those feed store "americanas", and the free "tornado chickens" everybody got last spring didn't help either. I have to keep prices on the low end to make the travel buyers do worth it.

Narrow and bunched up. It's often hard to notice in roosters to the untrained eye, but the thing to look for are how well spanned apart the main tail feathers (not sickles or lesser sickles) are from each other, making a nice fan shape.

Often a good way to tell tail quality is by looking at the females of the same parentage too. They will have, as said, very narrow, bunched up main tail feathers. They should expand from just about the wing tips to the top of the angle of the tail (pref 45 degrees)
