Since I see pips n peeps posting: I must send some compliments towards her. My young breeding pair of blacks that were purchased as chicks- have matured into a fine breeding pair. I have not placed every egg the young pullet has laid into my 'bator-- but I can say that every egg I have put in has been fertile. I should have a nice selection of chicks to choose from, as some are already here- and hope to have more to continue to build around.

I have been visiting and posting on message boards for 12 years now. (many subjects, not just chickens) I have learned to be very careful about making strong statements online because it is very hard to understand tone of voice or intent in black and white.
I have great respect for your knowledge and experience so please take this as playful ribbing....

Dude...get some O/O in those birds already...

Have to add, when ever I want to buy a certain breed, I come onto that breed's thread, read up on all of the good comments, pleasant comments, take notes, also take notes of who I might buy from.

I am going to do that also. I am hoping I have enough genetic diversity to start closing the flock, and not have to many faults pop up! I am going to try Royce, you have convinced me :) My wife will also be happy, no more buying birds/eggs. I can close down my quarantine area, and make a bachelor pad. Instead of buying birds eggs, I want to get a new bator! I am not sure which one to get, I am caught between the brisnea hatcher/brooder, or the Sportsman 1502. Or should I get the separate hatcher, bator???????????????

I really like my Brinsea 190 with humidity pump. I hatch in a Hovabotor 1588 to keep the Brinsea cleaner.

That is they way I think I may go, I like the Brinsea technology better, I can use my current bators for hatching.

Sorry I got off subject for this thread!

Well, I love my 1588! I have many Pure Ameraucana eggs in there right now, from some great breeders here on BYC..working with some great folks on here. I have the BBS in right now. Can't wait to see what I get.
